Honeycomb: A Unique Organic Bookshelf

Designed by Seyed Mohammad Mortazavi, the Honeycomb bookshelf is a one-of-a-kind piece that adds a touch of elegance and uniqueness to any space. The upper part of the bookshelf appears to be floating in the air, secured in place by a wooden sheet at the back, resembling a raw honeycomb.

What sets the Honeycomb bookshelf apart is its organic design, specifically created to store books in a fashionable and innovative way. The hexagonal cells come in various sizes, accommodating books of all dimensions. The smaller books fit perfectly in the smaller cells, ensuring a visually pleasing arrangement.

One of the standout features of the Honeycomb bookshelf is the empty space between the bottom side and the upper part of the honeycombs. This space provides an opportunity to display additional books or sculptures, adding a personal touch to the overall design.

The smallest hexagon in the center of the bookshelf serves as the focal point, with all the books oriented towards it. This design element adds a sense of harmony and cohesion to the arrangement, making it visually appealing and functional.

The Honeycomb bookshelf is crafted using maple wood with a white color coating, giving it a sleek and modern look. With dimensions of 210*210*30 CM in height, width, and depth, it is a statement piece that can elevate any living or office space.

The design process for the Honeycomb bookshelf began in March 2015 and was completed in June 2015 in Tehran, Iran. The main research focus was on finding an organic pattern that could be used for an interior office bookshelf, combining technical considerations with maintaining the shape and pattern integrity.

One of the main challenges faced during the design and manufacturing process was maximizing usability while retaining the fashion-forward and organic nature of the bookshelf. The goal was to create a design that offered ample space for books without compromising its unique pattern.

The Honeycomb bookshelf has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and technical characteristics. The Honeycomb bookshelf stands out for its remarkable level of excellence and its ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder.
